What I stitched

I'm primarily a cross stitcher but adore the needlepoint patterns shared on this site. When I saw Valley Tulips, I fell in love with the colors and the fact that I could easily adapt it to a bookmark, one of my favorite type of projects.

How I adapted it

Because I was changing it to a cross stitch item, I was able to cheat a bit and not stitch every area. I used a purchased white Aida bookmark with green trim, used only the light beige against the white instead of the light beige and mocha used on the original pattern.

I also had to repeat the pattern a bit to make it longer. Around the edge I had to get creative since I wasn't working on mesh. So I used lazy daisy stitches and french knots for the flowers and Algerian eyes for the corners.

Lessons Learned

  • I see I need to learn how to photograph needlework.
  • I learned that needlepoint patterns come in different counts according to the canvas that should be used. I'm used to all my patterns being done on a 10 count grid. That was a surprise to me.
