A very easy method for marking a pattern onto canvas is to use dry erase markers.

Line your pattern up with the edge of the canvas so that you don't waste any canvas you could use for a later project.

If you are counting, count the mesh of the width by the mesh of the legth and mark the canvas accordingly.

For this project, I am simply tracing around my full size pattern with a dry erase marker to create simple cutting lines.
