To work a row of basketweave stitch, bring your needle up in the bottom left hole of the target intersection (1), and insert your needle down into the canvas in the upper right hole of the target intersection (2). Bring your needed up in the next hole to the diagonal upper left. Repeat the process working upwards diagonally to work a row.
The next row of stitches is worked in the opposite direction - to the diagonal lower right.
