The Basketweave Stitch is one of the most basic stitches in needlepoint. This stitch can be used in large areas of canvas and is known for giving it's finished products durability. Stitched with the grain of the canvas, this stitch should not distort the fabric.
Stitched on the diagonal (as all are tent stitches), of mesh, this stitch has good coverage on both the front and back of the canvas and it's basketweave pattern (seen on the backside of the canvas) adds great durability to the finished product.
The Basketweave Stitch is made by bringing your needle up through the canvas leaving a 1" tail on the underside. You begin this stitch in the upper right corner, working diagonally. Skip one canvas hole between the stitches.
