- Overview:
The Continental Tent Stitch is a common needlepoint stitch. It is worked from right to left across canvas. The tent stitch is usually only used if you are stitching a single row (horizonally or vertically), but can be used for multiple rows in some circumstances.
- Create a Continental Tent Stitch:
Begin this stitch in the upper right, work needle diagonally coming from holes with shared stitches and leaving in those that are empty. When finished, turn canvas around completely to begin to work a new row.
- Overview:
The Basketweave Tent Stitch is worked in diagonal rows across the canvas creating a basket like pattern on the back of the canvas. You are basically stitching the first row down, second row up, etc.
- Create a Basketweave Stitch:
For each stitch you should go into a hole that has been stitched (except the first!) and come out in an empty hole. To work down, hold the needle vertically to make stitches. Once you have finished that row, to go up, needle should be inserted horizontally.
- Overview:
The Half-Cross Tent Stitch is used less often than the other stitches because it is not as durable. Half Cross stitch is used for filling in small areas, or in outlines. If used in larger areas, this stitch will distort your canvas and should never be used on mono canvas.
- Create a Half Cross Stitch:
This stitch is created beginning at the lower right and working the stitches across the canvas holding your needle vertically. At the end of the first row, turn your canvas around and start down the other side.
