Paying her way through art college, Lula worked up to three jobs at a time to pay for her education.
Her positions in the textile field included Pinquoin yarns, mangagment of knitting and needelework shops, and even one with a textile lab testing, and evaluating textiles for major corporations and the US Government.
"Wooly Dreams Designs" was born from Lula's dreams of being a knitwear designer, but her love of threads and yarns led her naturally to needlwork.
Ms. Chang's work represents her love for beautiful threads and is quoted as saying: "Threads are the major factor in making signs "come to life"."
It is her belief, that a well designed and painted canvas a person to create their own "masterpiece", even with the most basic stitches and threads.
Wooly Dreams Designs is well known for hand painted needlepoint canvases. Lula says, "Each Wooly Dreams Design canvas is an original work of art as I paint each one of my own canvas designs individually from scratch to capture every nuance of expression and detail........what you see painted will look exactly the same when stitched as all canvases are carefully stitch painted for accuracy of detail and for easy stitching."
Lula Chang was chosen to present one of her beautiful handstitched ornaments on a Christmas tree at the White House. In just 3 weeks, she designed, painted and stitched her Santa ornament that was displayed on the Blue Room Tree in 1997.
Graduate of The Fashion Institute of Technology (SUNY), with a major in Textile Design (specialty in Surface Design) The University of Michigan, with a major in Fine Arts (School of Architecture and Design)

Lula was also chosen as the National DMC Designer of the Year Award Winner-2000.

Perhaps some of my favorite pieces, the needlepoint Matroishka Dolls (beautifully painted nesting dolls) are offered on different sized canvas depending on whether you would like to stitch a larger doll or a smaller doll.
