This little guy is an excerpt from one of Barbara's larger composition, Agave and Hummer, which she has graciously shared with us.
The designs is pre-stitched with white Flair, and the stitched threads are then painted in rainbow colors using watered down acrylic paints. The colors flow and bleed onto the background canvas for a beautiful effect. Accenting metallic stitches bring him to life, along with a tiny black hex seed bead for his eye, and a couched outline of overdyed floss.
The background is a single ply Watercolours in a stitch that simulates the bird's hovering movement. He can be finished off as a charming ornament, box top or pillow insert.
