Pre-Columbian Art in Needlepoint

From Cheryl Fall, About.com Guide   January 20, 2010

Two companion charts have been added over the past two days for your stitching pleasure.

The first pattern features a stylized monkey framed by a striped border, and the second a winged bird framed by in chevron border, and were inpired by Pre-Columbian art from Guatemala.

Only three colors of wool in traditional colors are used in these projects.

They can be worked separately, or as a set.

Enjoy!

These are magnificent. My daughter likes monkeys, I don’t. But this one is very interesting. I personally love the bird. Question though: looking at the instructions it says both take the same colors and amounts. Maybe it’s an illusion but it seems the amounts of reddish brown and tan would be reversed since the monkey has all reddish brown background and the bird has all tan. Do you know the answer?

You are indeed correct! Thank you for pointing this out. I have added the supplies needed to the bird page, and edited the monkey page.

Thank you so much. I love these patterns and hope to make them some day. LOL That’s what I said about all the other patterns in my stash. I know I’ll do the ice cream bars you’re offering. I have a plan. :-) That’s always a good start.

I think these are my favorite charts of the ones you’ve shared so far! They are quite unique!
